t’s April, a time I both loathe and look forward to – tax time. Few are excited about paying taxes and the time it takes to orga- nize all the paperwork, but almost everyone enjoys a refund.
This season, while completing some of the required tax paperwork, I thought about our
Ed Stoner ATHLETiC DiRECTOR
Exercise & Conditioning Enclosure project and the similarities. While a different type of taxing, the E&C Enclosure is taxing our physical resources and sometimes every- one’s patience. As many members have noted, the E&C Room space continues to be taxed at peak hours. This is a result of our construction and increased usage by the membership. If you have ever lived through a home remodel, you understand the strain such an endeavor can put on your daily life. The E&C Room, as one of our most active spaces in the club, is not unlike your kitchen in that respect. The strain is due mainly to having a portion of the room closed off and an additional studio’s worth of equipment inserted in it due to the enclosure project. The most common question asked is, “Is the current equipment layout permanent?” The answer is no. That said, it is likely going to be changed again, and possibly get worse before it gets better. During construction, we continue to adjust the floor layout to make sure the space remains safe, while keeping as many pieces of equip- ment available to the membership as pos- sible. “Why is it taking so long?” is another frequent question. It is a long construction timeline by design, so that we only close one studio space at a time, in an effort to limit the inconvenience. And, speaking of studios, Studio 1 gets smaller with a tempo- rary wall along the north (stadium) side of the room soon. Both Studios 1 and 3 close at separate times between now and July. We know this disruption is not easy, but believe the pain is worth the gain (think tax refund) when the enclosure and remodeled spaces are completed this summer.
