Moms and Daughters Find Synchro Success A

nne Cleve, a former junior synchro mom whose daughter Hannah took part in the sport for six years, is now a team member with the morning synchro masters. During her daughter’s synchro career, Anne served with the synchro committee for five years, eventually becoming the committee chair for the 2010-2011 season. When her daughter left synchro to pursue water polo midway through Cleve’s term, she decided to join the masters team to maintain the integrity of her chairmanship and to stay connected to the program. Now in her second season with the morning masters team, Cleve is thrilled to be involved.

“I have found such joy in learning a new sport at my ripe old age of 41! The ladies I swim with are so gracious and amazing athletes; it is humbling to be in the water with them. It is the ultimate team sport,

both in and out of the water. I forgot how much I love being coached!” Cleve also credits the coaches. “The energy of Marissa (Montejano,) the incom- parable precision of Lucie (Svrcinova) and the staid voice of experience of Julie

(Thaden) have made my time in the pool a time of learning not only a new and chal- lenging sport, but also about learning how I receive correction and apply it to my life. There are many valuable life lessons to ponder while trying to stay upside down in a pool. I’m grateful to the club for its unwavering support of this high-achieving program.”

Also recently joining the adult squad is Phyllis Newmark, whose mother Jeanne Newmark is a member of the 80-89 masters team. Phyllis attended the national meet to watch her mother last October. During some down time, coach Lucie got her in the pool to try some synchro basics and found her to be a natural. Now mother and daughter practice twice a week with the morning masters, learning the same routines. Jeanne expressed her joy to have her daughter join her in a sport that has long been a part of her life.
