Weekly Track Workouts Help Sharpen Speed
T
he Running and Triathlon Committee hosts the annual MAC Mile on
Wednesday, May 16 at the Lincoln Track. This year’s MAC Mile consists of five races, including three different mile events, a 4x400 relay race and a kids dash. The MAC Mile is held in conjunction with the MAC Spring Decathlon.
There are several ways to prepare for the MAC Mile or other races. Member Coach Sean Coster is leading weekly track workouts until the MAC Mile on Thursdays at 6 p.m. at the Lincoln Track. Track workouts are not just for the fleet-footed harriers with short shorts and expensive shoes. Weekly training on the track with the MAC Tri and Run club provides tools to improve running form and reduce the chance of overuse injuries while improving foot speed. Athletes learn how to properly warm up prior to fast running, receive form cues and receive empirical references for the proper running intensity. With a good variety of exercises, drills, up-tempo running and form work, track work is an enjoyable weekly addition to one’s running. Additionally, the Running and Triathlon Committee hosts a running clinic on

SHOE REVIEW 2012 SPRING Full Garage? Bring Extra Gear to Booster Club Sale
Team Booster Club hosts its first Outdoor Gear Sale in the East Gym on Saturday, June 2. This is a great opportunity for MAC members to sell outgrown, unused or unwanted outdoor equipment in good condition. For those with nothing to sell, it is also an opportu- nity to purchase quality gear at low prices.
I
For a registration fee of $10, a member can drop off equipment in the East Gym. The member does not need to be present during the sale. Ninety percent of each sale goes to the member, with 10 percent to support the MAC climbing team. For items too large to bring up to the gym, a picture with a price and phone number can be posted on a desig- nated bulletin board. All transactions are credited or debited on members’ MAC bills. Gear can be dropped off in the East Gym Friday, June 1 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. All items re-marked with a price. The sale runs from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The MAC Climbing Booster Club reserves the right to not allow any items it deems unsuitable for the sale.
