Morning Readers Embark on ‘Journey’

Journey on Thursday, April 12. Notable Americans found Paris an oasis for arts and education in the 1830s and ’40s. Americans braved the often-wicked Atlantic crossing taking up to a month just to get to Paris. The work is an ambitious, wide-ranging study of how being in Paris helped spark generations of American genius. There is time to read and join the April discussion of the first half of this book. The second part is discussed at the May meeting. Read, come, share and enjoy being a member of a fun group. Morning Book Club meets at 10 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month. Please check at the Front Desk for the meeting location. Future selections include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in June; Mark Twain, an autobiography, in July and August; and Steve Jobs in September and October. Evening Readers Enjoy an ‘Ending’

Ending by Julian Barnes. This lyrical little tome, which won the Man Booker Prize in 2011, was written by an acclaimed writer at the height of his powers. The novel follows Tony

T

Webster, who lived an average life with an unre- markable career, a quiet divorce and a calm middle age, who suddenly must contend with a past he never much thought about.

His closest childhood friends’ return stirs up a murky past. This novel begs to be read in a single sitting. It carries readers with sensibility and wisdom through the agony of lost and mis-remembered time. The group meets Tuesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in one of the private dining rooms. –Martha Godfrey Dixon WM
