MAC Toastmasters Get Members Talking

W

hen it comes to public speaking, some people are dynamic, and some

dread the process. How much more success might a person

log in one’s career, family life, or enriching causes and social events if only she were a better speaker? Learning to think on one’s feet, before speaking and as one speaks can be life-changing. Just ask Jeanne Turner. “At MAC

Toastmasters, I’ve learned to think on my feet and make myself understood in any situation, with no fear,” she says. MAC Toastmasters President Tice O’Sullivan agrees. “I have to give convincing presentations at work, and Toastmasters has upped my confidence. Plus, this group is so diverse, I learn things.” The MAC Toastmasters group has been quietly nurturing leaders for 35 years. Toastmasters alumni include many MAC committee chairs and trustees. The group’s current member roster includes young CEOs, digital dynamos, a civic/strategic planner, a MAC Joe Loprinzi Inspirational Award winner, a recent Miss Oregon, physi- cians, teachers, new college grads and a MAC ski coach.

Toastmaster and professional communicator Tim Leigh cuts to the chase: “There are two big requirements for better speaking. One is standing and doing it; the other is being evaluated so you know how you come across. Toastmasters serves both.” Toastmasters meet on Mondays from 6:30-8 a.m. in a MAC private dining room. Check in at the Front Desk for the location. For more information, contact Member Services at 503-517-7265. WM
