ALICE IN WONDERLAND Author Lewis Carroll lived in Sussex Square from 1874-87 and the underground passage from the gardens to the seafront is said to be the inspiration for the rabbit hole in his famous book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was schooled in the Brunswick area of Hove where he is commemorated by a


blue plaque on a building in Lansdowne Place. Brighton’s popular Churchill Square shopping mall is named after him.
