FARMERS MARKETS Buy locally at
Farmers markets are the best place to find fresh,
unprocessed, organic food products. Farmers markets allow farmers to pick produce at the peak of flavor and preserve the nutritional content of fresh produce. Locally grown produce does not travel as far to get to your table, therefore the difference in mileage saves fossil fuels lead- ing to lower prices for better products. Markets give peo- ple the opportunity to shop in a traditional way like our parents and grandparents did. In villages throughout the world today, weekly market days allow their community to harvest and enjoy the produce from that area. Abilene’s only certified farmer’s market is the Northside Farmers Market located across from Frontier Texas. Te market opens in May and runs until October. It is open Tuesday, Tursday, and Saturday 7am to sell out. Te availability of produce varies throughout the season. Some products available at the Abilene market include fresh vegetables and fruit, organic eggs, organic grass fed beef, and locally grown honey.
Benefits of Farmers Markets
•Most products sold are organic or treated minimally with pesticides •Buying directly from the grower with the ability to inquire about the products •Directly stimulating the local economy •Consumers enjoy fresh, seasonal produce
