t’s the year of the Olympics in London – the world’s biggest international sports event makes its return to England’s capital
and it promises to be a bumper event and one that will, hopefully, lift the gloom and doom around. But while that is an event far removed
from the world of the industrial baker, 2012 is a year which features seriously important events in the world of baking. It kicks off with Europain in Paris from

be the place to be and to be seen in March. And judging by the attendance, it was a
busy show. There was the usual public wandering through, grabbing free samples and swelling the numbers. But there are also seemed to be serious
business going on with many stands inthe industrial and artisanal baking sections hosting meetings with new or prospective clients. People we spoke to were impressed with
leads they had made and were, generally, in apositive frame of mind for the year ahead. This is not the only major event for 2012.
Next up is Anuga FoodTec in Cologne in March, followed in May by Campden BRI’s inaugural Bakery Technology Conference in Britain and then another major event is iba 2012, which is scheduled for Munich in September. Based on Europain’s success, we hope this
well-organised event has set the tone for the rest of the year.
