M St. Alexius Medical Center recently
expanded its MRI services with the construction of a new MRI suite com- plete with the MAGNETOM® Aera 1.5T Open Bore MRI system from Siemens. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams are non-invasive diagnostic imaging exams of soft tissue, bone and muscles. This new unit off ers doctors an array of state-of-the-art diagnostic possibilities and provides patients with a more comfortable experience. “Our investment in our MRI services supports our commitment to providing the most advanced diagnostic technol- ogy to our patients. We also want to
make sure patients are as comfortable as possible. To help patients feel at ease, we even have a simulated sky light installed in the new MRI suite,” said Dewey Schlittenhard, St. Alexius vice president of professional services. The MAGNETOM Aera boasts a large 70 cm open bore, which is the tube-like structure of the MRI unit where the patient lies during the imaging process. Additionally, the system’s ultra-short bore can help to alleviate concerns of claustrophobia since many exams can be performed with the patient’s head outside of the bore.

Since the Development Fund’s beginning, it has invested almost $90 million into 491 diff erent companies, with over a third of that going to rural North Dakota communities. These investments have helped create an estimated 10,000 primary sector jobs. The Development Fund has also been responsible for helping eight new start-up businesses over the last year. The North Dakota Development
Fund recently released its 2010-2011 Annual Report, which can be viewed at
