Letter From The Director of Entrepreneur Country Dear Entrepreneur Country Citizens,
Welcome to the March issue of our magazine, and our first fully-fledged DIGITAL SPECIAL. Since the launch of our publication, we have always endeavoured to champion the advancement of the digital age and its effect on entrepreneurs. In this issue, we welcome another Dragon to our front cover, this time in the form of Bolton-born Entrepreneur Hilary Devey. Newest addition to the Den and Queen of the distribution sector, Hilary shines a torch on strong will and spirit in the face of adversity. She gained a crash course in product and cash flow working from the age of 7 at her parent’s pub, moved school 13 times and traded her house and car for a flat on top of a fish and chip shop to secure funding at a time when banks laughed at women who aspired to set up companies. There is nothing this lady hasn’t done to succeed and her interview is a pledge to us all to continue pushing for achievement. Read Devey’s interview on pages 38-41 to hear more of her story.
Today, small businesses arguably have more choice. Entrepreneurs no longer have to plead with their bank manager or scour for an angel investor, with CrowdCube’s Luke Lang exploring in his article ‘The Digital Dragon’s Den’ (49) that by utilising the internet, investors can now find you, with SME’s now able to secure investment through his Crowd funding website. Our technology theme can be found on every page, with even the Young Master’s ‘SpotlightOn’ feature (52- 53) covering entrepreneurs with technology companies, as well as our book reviews (58) being exclusively aimed at businesses who are utilising the web to excel their reach.
All in all, the March issue has become a microcosm of how we predict the future of an ‘Entrepreneur Country’ - slowly but surely traditional models (or pages!) are being cast aside, ready for a new dimension that sees digital as the way to a sustainable future.
