A SEASON OF COLORS
1. Bright, Vibrant Colors Bold is truly beautiful this season, as high-energy color floods boutiques across the country and the globe. First seen in small doses on the runways last year, color blocking is back in full swing this year and pairs up contrasting, yet complimentary bold, bright colors. Try a bright, super-soft spring cashmere sweater from Autumn Cashmere (bottom right), featuring luxurious trims and high fashion inspired styles. Serving as the favorite cashmere brand of many high profile celebrities, Autumn Cashmere is a fresh, contemporary, and innovative knitwear company, creating cashmere, cashmere blend, and cotton sweaters and accessories that excite the senses and inspire fun living.
2. Cap-Toe Shoes From sandals to wedges to heels, cap-toe footwear is certainly here to stay this season. Even the “Material Girl” Madonna — who is launching a shoe line under her new Truth or Dare label — has caught on to the cap-toe craze with some of the shoes in her new line featuring cap-toe details. Shown this season in metallic gold, silver, or patent leather, the cap-toe shoe adds an air of elegance to any outfit. For the perfect spring shoe, look to this bright, turquoise ankle boot (shown opposite). Adding this shoe to your spring closet will certainly turn heads and have you simply walking on air. From the Spring 2012 Thakoon collection, these cap-toe slingback boots are a true reflection of the highly diverse
background of its designer, Thakoon Panichgul. Born in Thailand, and currently New York-based, Panichgul’s creations blend various distinct influences with dynamic ingenuity. His work is an examination of innovative construction and his collection imparts a feminine spirit, poised elegance, and an underlying hint of playful wit. Prior to launching his own label, Panichgul spent four years as a writer and editor for Harper’s Bazaar, where he chased after style news, traced trends, and developed fashion stories. As a designer, he has developed a cult following and created a unique niche, consistently presenting collections of beautifully crafted, feminine designs which are as romantic and sensual as they are modern and intelligent.
3. Floral Prints If you haven’t noticed yet, floral patterns are everywhere this spring. From large print florals, to pairing smaller floral patterns with bold colors or graphics, anything goes — from head to toe — when it comes to florals this season. On the catwalk, these bold, girly prints stood out and thundered down the runway in impeccable style. One ideal offering this season is the poppy dress from White House Black Market (below). A ruffled peasant neckline and unique floral print form a breezy silhouette rendered in ultra-light chiffon with a subtle texture. This lovely dress can be worn on or off the shoulder and delicately ties at the nape, perfect for a stroll on the beach or cocktails at the shore.
