traditional plug-in hybrid powertrain. It works with a turbocharged, 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine up front and a rear mounted electric motor, putting out a total 349 hp and 405 pound-feet of torque. The automaker says the i8 can do 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed 155 mph. Combined fuel economy is said to be as high as 80 mpg.

The Hypnos possesses a crossover body style and is powered by a 2-liter diesel hybrid drivetrain with a rear axle-mounted electric motor. The concept gets a stunning 52 miles per gallon and the test drivers appreciated the Prius- or RX400h-like noise and pollution free segments of city driving, as well as the torquey response from the diesel engine once the ICE was ignited. Citroen recently announced that diesel-hybrid engine would be available in all models by 2015.
