Barclay Chiropractic ‘Treks’ Ahead with Cold Laser Therapy
by Marc Ayotte The closely-knit, small town chiropractic business located on 5 Dracut Road in Hudson has recently made a big-time splash in the world of chiropractic health and wellness by adding a state of the art aspect to the services they offer. According to Dr. Warren Barclay, “we are as traditional as can be” but with the addition of
Cold Laser Technology, Dr. B, in his 26th year of practice, adds “all of a sudden we brought Star Trek in, expanding our goals with patients.” As a result, the father and son chiropractic tandem of Dr. Warren Barclay and Dr. Ryan Barclay affectionately referred to as “Dr. B” and “Dr. Ryan,” respectively, has set themselves apart from other conventional chiropractic practices.
Hi, I’m Dr. Ryan Barclay, D.C. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Did you know that becoming certified as a chiropractor requires a minimum of six years of highly specialized college training?
Today’s Doctor of Chiropractic must complete 4,485 hours of classroom instruction and pass a rigid chiropractic board examination before earning a license. In most states, continuing educational seminars must be completed for annual license renewal.
I am a graduate of Bishop Guertin High School and have graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiro- practic in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer College is widely considered the most prestigious chiropractic college in the world. While at Palmer, I held several positions of leader- ship. In addition, I have done extensive post-graduate studies in the diagnosis and treatment of back problems, whiplash, headaches, sports injuries, nutrition, physio- therapy and rehabilitation.
Additionally, I devote three days every six weeks attending a nationwide seminar in chiropractic training to stay current on the latest advances in my profession.
This is the kind of training and professionalism I offer you. If you have hesitated visiting a chiropractor, perhaps you didn’t know that chiropractors go to such great lengths to provide you with the latest techniques and the most qualified service. Call me today and let me help you.

Already offering services ranging from having an on-site therapist, to full exam and x-rays, to nutrition testing and message therapy, Dr. B noted “we are an office excited about change.” And that change has manifested itself in the form of an innovative procedure referred to as Cold Laser Therapy. As the only chiropractic office in southern New Hampshire to offer the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved treatment, the Barclays have seen immediate, positive results from the use of their Erchonia PL5000 Cold Lasar unit; complete with various settings that allow the rays to penetrate and reach the cells in need of treatment and healing. Although the
technology has been used worldwide for over 40 years, it was only clinically approved by the U.S. FDA in 2002. Scientifically speaking, the goal of laser therapy is to deliver light energy units from infrared laser radiation, called photons, to damaged cells. As Dr. B. explains in literature presented to his prospective clients; “the laser stimulates a structure within the cell, called the mitochondria, nicknamed the ‘powerhouse’, to produce more ATP, which is our molecular energy. So with more energy at the cell level, the tissues heal faster.” An added benefit to Cold Laser therapy is that it offers a non-intrusive option to acupuncture and surgery. It also provides a non-addicting treatment that eliminates the possible complications of long-term drug treatment programs. It is also very easy to apply and is extremely safe. Ten years after its FDA approval in the U.S., the
Barclays are offering the low level laser therapy (LLLT) form of treatment that according to one FDA study; “causes tissues to heal faster – muscle, skin and nerve – 66 percent faster.” The word laser often times conjures up an image of pain or heat associated with its use or application. The Barclays are quick to indicate that the Cold Laser Therapy is a “non-surgical and non-drug approach” that allows the body to heal itself. Dr. B added that the therapy yields “no pain” adding that the patient “feels nothing as the laser penetrates to the cell level.” Additionally, Barclay added that there is no contraindication from the therapy, meaning that there are no side effects. Putting the procedure into ‘scientifically understandable’ layman’s terms, Dr. Ryan explained that there is “low blood supply to tissue that was damaged, especially with scar tissue. As a result, the application of the cold laser “speeds- up the natural process of cell division making room for new nutrients” thereby enhances the body’s rehabilitative capabilities. Some of the positive biological effects of the therapy include; increased vascular activity, stimulated nerve function, increased metabolic activity in addition to the bottom line benefit of pain reduction.
In acknowledging that Cold Laser Therapy is not a stand-alone treatment of the ailments that their patients come to them with, the Barclays use the therapy to enhance their standard practice of providing a thorough, patient screening, personal hands-on exam and conventional treatment. After the initial evaluation, it is then determined whether or not to move forward with the cold laser treatment. According to Dr. B., the best and fastest results are being seen in patients experiencing more chronic pain, be it neck and back, carpal tunnel, various sports injuries,

our economy is back on track and happy days are here again? European recession, China slowdown, our government’s massive debt, and Iran worries are still very real problems. In 2011, the S&P 500 had a net zero return. Is that worth all those sleepless nights worrying about your retirement? CDs, although safe, are at historically low rates and will continue to lose money overall due to inflation. I believe you should never have to worry if
your life savings will be there when you need it or that a meager yield will short you on your future needs. We’ve never lost a Client Family Member to a competitor. If you’d like to learn more about why that is, call me to set up a complimentary consultation.

tendonitis or nerve and disc pain, to name a few. While visiting the Barclay office, I experienced an impromptu, mini-version of what the doctors offer their patients. As part of my patient, role- playing endeavor, I was treated to an actual application of the Cold Laser treatment. After Dr. B. briefly assessed my methodically and increasingly ailing torso, Dr. Ryan, with laser unit in hand, easily and painlessly applied the therapy to my lower back, addressing a weakness in leg strength that was detected in the exam. Amazingly, after spending only a few minutes under the ‘red rays’ I did notice an improvement in the strength/resistance aspect in my legs. By providing the latest and very effective
therapy available to chiropractic treatment, the benefits of Cold Laser Therapy have an inherent competitive advantage, adding to what the Barclay and Barclay team has to offer. In the chiropractic profession since 1986, all of which as a town of Hudson business, Dr. B., was joined by his son Ryan in the summer of 2010. With the father and son team each having earned their doctorate from Palmer College in Davenport, IA, the Mecca of chiropractic knowledge, they are excited about the early results as well as future success of the adjunct laser usage; “the effectiveness is so synergistic with chiropractic” noted Dr. B., adding that “it really enhances the whole chiropractic experience.”
