community | 05 Annual Filipino Chaplaincy’s St. Joseph Fiesta A Resounding Success TOM BAENA T
he 2012 St Joseph Fiesta was held on Sunday, the 18th March 2012 in the Nagle College auditorium and school grounds. It was blessed with sunshine from the start of a mass concelebrated by eight priests at 10.45 am, followed by a fellowship and food sharing. Now on its 10th year, the St Joseph Fiesta continues, going from strength to strength, with the collaboration and teamwork of all volunteers, led by Fr Raning Creta, the Filipino Chaplain. It was well attended and graced with the presence of the Consul General H.E. Anne Jalandoon-Louis, Mayor Allan Pendleton, Member of Parliament Ed Husic, Councillors Charlie Lowles and Allan Green together with Filipino community leaders, sponsors and members of the Filipino media. Fr Raning’s smiling face on this day would have said it all. He has led the Filipino Chaplaincy for the last 6 years or so, and his spiritual presence in the Filipino community is a testament of his friendly and effective leadership skills.

helping make the St Joseph Fiesta a success, whether small or large, especially those behind the scenes, is always enjoyed by all volunteers. Some volunteers had even taken annual leave prior to the event, just to help with the preparation, from start to finish.
The St Joseph Fiesta was preceded by a 9 day Novena mass, starting from the 9th March, followed by fellowship and food sharing after the Novena mass, with the assistance and participation of the various religious and community groups.
As the Fiesta winds down, the Filipino Chaplaincy is already busy preparing for its forthcoming activities, with Easter just a few weeks away. There will be a Lenten recollection on 31st March and this will be held at St Aidan’s Church, Rooty Hill.
