Jess Dias: Making her way to stardom T
he name is Jess Dias. You already know her as “Jess
Dias.” Appearing as a guest featured vocalist on tracks by the likes of Daniel Ross “Call My Love,” now available on iTunes, all accomplished in under a few months and without missing a beat. What you may not know is that she has been singing at an early age during festivals and various events. She started out in her birth state of Sydney. Jessica Dias’s unreleased debut double single titled “Addicted” and “Calling For More” was produced by Israel. Jess Dias, part-Sri Lankan and part-Filipino, had her sights set on solo stardom for as long as she can remember.
Jess Dias: A solo artists who’s ready to take the world like a storm with her soulful voice
Here’s an exclusive interview with Jess Dias, soul RnB singer based in Sydney, Australia: Ang Kalatas (AK):
What made you decide to be a singer/performer/artist? Jess Dias (JD): I was always involved in the performing arts team in high school and regularly involved myself in charity fundraising concerts festivals, etc. I knew it was something I enjoyed and I love doing. AK: How early did you start getting interested in music/performing? JD: I was always
involved in school choirs, etc. from a young age but didn’t start performing on my own until I was in 8th grade, so about 13-14 years old. It actually started at a school reflection retreat type of thing that we had to go to for the day and the man that conducted the seminar convinced me to sing “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera. AK: Who/what inspires you? How will you describe your music or performance? JD: I love soul music/ singers. Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, etc. When I started recording my own
music, I started with the whole clubbing/party type of music but as I grew as an artist I realised that that wasn’t the sort of artist I wanted to be portrayed as. I wanted to be appreciated for my voice and the messages in my songs rather than how good I looked or how well I shake my booty up on stage. More or less to be recognised because of my singing ability. AK: Any projects lately you’re working on? Artists with whom you’re doing any gig soon? JD: At the moment I’m working on a few tracks with a few local artists. Songs that have a story, songs that people can relate to. I just did an RnB Dance Track with Daniel Ross, “Call My Love.” He wrote the song and I was featured. It’s available on i-tunes and you can download it and this track is being played worldwide. AK: Where is your most memorable performance/ gig?
JD: This may sound corny but my most
memorable performance was for my grandma on her 90th birthday. I flew with my dad, uncles and aunt to Sri Lanka to surprise my grandma for her 90th birthday after not having seen her for a few years. I sang “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan to her. Thinking about her reaction and how much love was shared between myself and my family on that day still brings a tear to my eye. AK: We heard that you are not pure Filipino? JD: My Dad is Sri- Lankan and my Mom is Filipino. “Half Filo, half Sri-Lankan.”
AK: Who is/are your
idol/idols? JD: I would have to say Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys. Their music inspires me the most. AK: Anything more you like to tell your fans/ potential listeners, etc.? JD: The world is at your feet. You can be anything you want to be. Sometimes things happen that aren’t always the way you planned, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Dream big, live big. As long as you believe in yourself, that’s all that matters. To my fans, friends and people that follow my music and performance, thank you for all the support.
Also thanks to Big Boi Management, Joseph Magno and Marjorie Magno. I want to take this opportunity to thank my Mom, Dad, Aaron and the rest of my family for the continued love and support. AK: Invite them to your latest project/event. JD: No plans as yet. Keep an eye out for my new single will be out soon. Please support my music page on Facebook - Jess Dias Music. Follow me on
