Tuesday, February 6, 1968 The Bee Gees return to London from Los Angeles.


Thursday, February 8, 1968 The Bee Gees set off for some Scandinavian dates. On television, The Bee Gees are once again seen in a repeat performance of ‘Words’ on Top Of The Pops.


Saturday, February 10, 1968 Horizontal debuts on the US albums chart. Over the next 22 weeks it will peak at #12.


Tuesday, February 13, 1968 The band tapes another live radio session for BBC radio’s Top Gear (to be broadcast February 18th). Songs include: ‘Birdie Told Me’, ‘With The Sun In My Eyes’, ‘The Earnest Of Being George’ and ‘And The Sun Will Shine’.


Wednesday, February 14, 1968 In IBC Studio A, The Bee Gees tape a new song called ‘In The Summer Of His Years’ in seven takes.


Barry: “‘Summer Of His Years’ was Robin’s song about


“Somebody turn that sun lamp off, for God’s sake!” Robin, Vince, Colin, Maurice and Barry poised on the brink of world domination; that easy second album


President Kennedy. He brought that in. In those days we just used to bring things in. It would come out of one of our heads and then we’d sort of share the experience and finish up together, that’s sort of how it worked.”


Thursday, February 15, 1968 At IBC Studios, the band tape ‘I’ve Decided To Join The Airforce’. Also captured is some instrumental nonsense titled ‘Mellotroniaminy’.


Friday, February 16, 1968 At IBC Studio A, mono masters are completed for The Bee Gees’ next single: ‘Jumbo’ c/w ‘The Singer Sang His Song’.


Wednesday, February 21, 1968 In IBC Studio A, further studio work completes the masters for ‘In The Summer Of His Years’ and ‘I Have Decided To Join The Airforce’. Engineer John Pantry makes mono rough mixes of both titles.


Saturday, February 24, 1968 Horizontal makes the UK album charts. Over the next 15 weeks it will peak at #16. On British radio, the group are heard on Saturday Club.


Tuesday, February 27, 1968 The group embarks on a German tour.


Thursday, February 29, 1968 On television, The Bee Gees are once again seen in a repeat performance of ‘Words’ on Top Of The Pops.
