By Suzanne Arango The PC Sr. Softball Association is closing

out its 2011-2012 season this month with a slew of activities. We will be fi nishing up our regular games on Saturday, April 14 then the play-off games will be played on April 16 and 17. On April 16 we will have a game to determine the League Championship. That 7 a.m. game will be between the winners of the 1st half and 2nd half of the season. The tournament games will follow for the rest of the day and culminate on April 17 with the crowning of the Tournament Champion. During that fi nal day, the players and their guests will be treated to an end of the year BBQ lunch at the fi eld. On Saturday, April 21 we will gather

to celebrate our season, ending with a banquet at Tuscany Falls Ballroom. At this yearly general board meeting the new board members will be formally announced and we will be able to show our appreciation to those retiring. The annual awards will be presented and the teams will socialize for a fi nal time until the fall. After the banquet for those who wish to continue to party, there will be dancing to the tunes of softball player and DJ,

Mike Donaghue. Spring ball teams will be announced on

April 12 and games will start on April 24. These games are played on Tuesdays and Fridays and continue through June 29. It is a great way for new and prospective players to give it a try and get to know many of the regulars. Mark Roberts has been working on this since February. So far 72 players have signed up forming six teams. Of course, Saturday pick-up games will

start in late May or early June and continue throughout the summer. The games begin at 8 a.m. and all you have to do is show up. Teams will be formed each day. If you would like to be sent information on these pick-up games, please send your request and email address to Ken Sangillo at ken@lshlights.com. Our Events Committee continues to collect

items for the New Life Center. The collection bins are at the ballpark all day every Saturday and will continue to be there until the last game on April 14. All of this information plus current postings

on league activities can be found at any time by logging on to our easy to use website at www.quickscores.com/pcssa. 

who thank us, many with tears of gratitude and relief as they leave. If anyone would ask me why I do this job, it is because I feel so happy when I am there. Has this work changed your view or

broadened your perspective? This job has changed much of my view of

the world today. I see the poorest of the poor, desperately seeking help for themselves and their loved ones. I also see the compassion and generosity of the professional medical staff, who I am sure could be doing better fi nancially elsewhere. I have been privileged to meet benefactors who provide fi nancial and in-kind services. Has doing volunteer work changed the

way you think about yourself? This volunteer work has given me the

satisfaction of giving back for the many blessings I have received in my life. This includes my own good health as well as

that of my family and also the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the climates and beauty of Arizona and Wisconsin, the best of both worlds! Have there been problems with the job? My biggest problem is the empathy that I

have for the patients, especially the little kids who come in with runny noses, fevers, and watery eyes. Who may prospective volunteers

contact? The volunteer contact is Jeanne Karnell at

602-861-9587. Would you be willing to talk to residents

interested in doing this type of volunteer job? Yes,

in PebbleCreek at 623-535-1334,

or during the summer at 715-845-7140. For more volunteer information, please visit the PebbleCreek GivingForward website at http://www.pcgivingforward.org. 

their neighbors by providing them with information regarding Kare Bears services, short-term loan of medical equipment, and the medical appointment transportation program, both provided at no cost to the resident. A resource guide, containing a list of service providers from pet sitters to home health providers, is another service you can offer your neighbors who are in need. Being a Kare Bears Coordinator is a

great way to get to know your neighbors, meet new people in PebbleCreek and to feel good about yourself. “But,” you say, “how much time does all this take?” Of course, this depends on

the needs of your neighbors which will change as their health changes, but a best estimate for most weeks would be 1-2 hours a week. We currently need coordinators for Units

1,2,4,6,8,12,18,26,27,31,32,35,38, and 54. Kare Bears has needs for volunteers in

many areas. Please consider offering your time today! Call the Kare Bears house at 623-536-1200 if you are interested in volunteering or stop by the house at 15383 W. Cheery Lynn Rd. Joan Ochsenreiter and Paul Welling have tickets ready for sale for the PC Singers’ upcoming concert “Listen to the Music.” 

PEBBLECREEK POST

Bob Stofac The 2012 Flight 1 champion, Richard

Horst, put an exclamation mark on his victory with a hole-in-one on EN hole no. 17 on the last day of competition and turned in a three round total of 199. Second place winner, Bud Held also had a 199 but lost to Horst on a scorecard playoff. Chuck Veltri placed third only two strokes behind. Flight 2 champ, Ed Terns beat both John Reuland and Tom Burrell who tied for second, two strokes behind Tern’s 204. Ray Cantalano held off Nick Steckler (second) and Bob Williams (third) to take the Flight 3 title with a very respectable 201. However,

the lowest net

total of all fl ights went to the Flight 4 winner, Bill Baxter with a 197 which bettered the 200 posted by both Ray Measles and Dennis Thelen who tied for second.

There was plenty of great golf played

on all three days, including ten exceptional scores (i.e. net 65 or less) posted in the tournament with

the most exceptional

being a 59. Fortunately, Nick Steckler, the club handicap chairman, was playing in the same foursome as the member who posted the miraculous score. That enabled Steckler to quickly investigate, contemplate, and adjudicate the situation before anyone could say, “sandbagger.” Knowing the unquestionable probity of the member and the circumstances of the event, Steckler could only conclude that if this man was being considered for sainthood, with this 59, and a really good card trick, all he would need is one more miracle and the Pope’s blessing. (St. Nick has a nice ring to it, but I think that name has been taken). 
