Love British Food 2012 promotional packs are now available to order. The packs give school caterers everything they need to run a really strong promotion in their establishment during Love British Food 2012. Balloons, shelf barkers, posters and bunting are all enclosed in a special Love British Food 2012 pack, with advice and top tips on taking part. The standard charge for one pack is £10, which includes post, plus VAT, and can be purchased via the Love British Food website. The closing date for orders is 11th May, with packs being distributed later that month in time for the Diamond Jubilee.
Pabulum to play central role
Pabulum has been awarded the three year contract to provide school meals at Eardley Primary School in Streatham, South London, as part of the school’s initiative to improve its pupils’ lunchtime experience. “Good, wholesome, healthy food is at the very heart of our offering,” says Pabulum’s director of sales, Amanda Ciraulo, “but what really makes working with Pabulum special is the support we bring to our customer relationships.” At Eardley, pupils will be introduced to The Healthy Bunch, Pabulum’s engaging group
of farmyard characters designed to help children understand the benefits of healthy eating through visual messaging and play, while the daily lunch menu will provide a wide variety of fresh, seasonal produce designed to meet the dietary needs of the school’s mixed ethnic background.

Northumberland pub saves service
The pupils of Wark First School in Wark, near Hexham in Northumberland, are enjoying a menu of lunches that would make any dinner lady proud, thanks to a link-up with nearby Battlesteads Pub, Hotel and Restaurant. Following funding cut backs from the Local Education Authority (LEA), the school had to make the decision to close its kitchen and make its part-time cook redundant, so headteacher Amanda Lewis needed to find an alternative solution. The team at multi-award winning Battlesteads came to the rescue and they’re now providing
nutritious, flavoursome meals for the 30 children at the school every day. “Everyone wins in this situation,” says Richard Slade, who owns and runs Battlesteads. “We can make use of our kitchen at what would usually be a down time. The school has a solution to its problem. The children get lunches that are full of flavour and variety and are made from seasonal produce, much of which is home grown. The parents have peace of mind that their children are being fed well, and local suppliers are gaining business as our menus include locally-sold produce.”
