NEW TO EXETER
June is Devon Restaurant Month; expect all sorts of treats – discounts, special menus, chances to meet the chef and assorted fun events of every type – as some of the county’s best eateries shout loud and proud about what they’ve got…
Devon knows how they make it so delicious

ITH THE SOUTH West increasingly recognised as one of Britain’s foodie hotspots, a new campaign – backed by some of Devon’s top chefs and restaurateurs – aims to promote the county
right across the UK. Among those backing Devon Restaurant Month
in June are Christopher Archambault of Southernhay House Hotel, Deborah Clark (owner of both Southernhay House and Burgh Island) and Simon Hulstone from Torquay’s Michelin-starred The Elephant. Deborah in particular is urging everyone to support
their local independent businesses. ”It should be about encouraging quality and
enthusiasm,” she says, “with the freshest ingredients
and sustainable sourcing. Ignore the corporate chains!” “It’s really great that momentum is gathering now,” agrees the campaign’s founder, Jeff Cooper. “Across the county, restaurants both large and small
are getting involved. This initiative allows owners to come together to tell people what they’re planning.” And what plans they are: special discounts,
promotions and one-off events of all types. “It might be a cocktail evening,or a buy-one-get-one-free offer,” Jeff says. “We’ve seen musician appearance and anniversary
celebrations; the possibilities are endless, really. There’s so much we can do to highlight how special Devon really is when it comes to food.” For more

unnecessary) way, and what on earth has inspired them to do so? Find out on page 78…
