as well as the conveniently deep, wide step and exceptionally large ‘entry window’. The company points to its attention to detail in the design and positioning of each control, such as the hydraulic levers which are said to bring a feeling of precise movement. Buyers can also opt for a fi ngertip hydraulic control unit, based on the company’s award-winning adjustable armrest concept. In some ways EDIA actually ‘thinks’ for the driver. Having pioneered hydraulic and travel interlock technology in its Integrated Presence System (IPS), Mitsubishi is equipping EDIA with the upgraded IPS2. This prevents all movement if the driver is not seated and gives seat belt and parking brake reminders. For extra security, IPS2 automatically applies an electronic parking brake when the driver leaves the seat. And when the truck is being driven, a hill-hold feature prevents accidental rolling – even on steep ramps.

allowing performance parameters to be adjusted precisely to meet the needs of each operator and task. Importantly, a range of simple settings can easily be selected by the driver via the new, multi-function, colour display unit.

JUST DRIVE

While operators are encouraged by Mitsubishi to ‘just drive’, the designers have also done a lot to make life easy for forklift managers – whatever the conditions. Truly an outdoor as well as indoor truck, EDIA meets the industry’s IPX4 waterproofi ng standard. It is resistant not only to wind- blown rain but to water splashing from all directions. Crucially, the hydraulic and traction motors are totally enclosed to keep out water and dust – complying with the offi cial IP54 Ingress Protection rating. panel cabins, which feature the

company’s award-winning hi-vis roof. EDIA’s wet disc brakes, fi tted as standard, are also sealed against water and dirt. This prevents corrosion and damage in wet, salty, dusty or dirty environments. At the same time, they are also ideal for ‘clean’ applications, such as food production, because they produce no dust particles. Like the electric steering system, these brakes are virtually maintenance-fee. The truck’s general servicing needs have been reduced to a minimum and RapidAccess features have been used to speed up all routine checks. They include a quick-release fl oor plate and a wide-access battery cover. Operating costs have been reduced further by the energy effi ciency of the truck, which owes much to the advanced

steering system technology. The result is longer shifts and a lot less recharging. If they wish, managers and drivers can select ‘low energy consumption’ as a pre-set mode. A new lateral battery exchange option is now available, allowing simple, quick removal and replacement – any time, any place – with no need for lifting equipment. This is

important for productivity in multi-shift and heavy duty operations, but it also offers an important safety benefi t to all forklift users. For maximum compatibility with the user’s existing equipment and needs, EDIA’s battery compartment has been designed to accommodate both DIN and BS size batteries with a variety of capacities. In total there are 12 EDIA EM models, lifting anything between 1.3 and 2.0 tonnes – and offering market-leading residual capacities. By combining these with the ideal choice of battery and other options, your local Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks dealer can supply an EDIA truck to suit every application and budget. Much more information on EDIA EM – including videos and a 3d walkthrough – is available now at the interactive microsite. 
