Hudson - Litchfield News | March 23, 2012 - 7

by Marc Ayotte The Campbell boys’ and girls’ basketball teams enjoyed very successful seasons even though each of their seasons were cut short of bringing home state titles. The Shawn Flynn led Lady Cougars made it to their fifth consecutive state championship finals game before succumbing to White Mountain Regional. In boys’ hardwood action, Coach Pat Roye’s team displayed a season-long, well- balanced attack into the state quarter-finals before being upended by a red hot Prospect Mountain team. (USA) in the fall, certainly made her mark in the CHS record books. Among her entries are: fifth all-time in two point field goals made; seventh all-time in two point field goal percentage; third all-time in three-point field goals made; sixth in career scoring; 10th all- time in total rebounds; sixth all-time in blocked shots; fifth all- time in steals and second in career assists with 204 – tremendous accomplishments, factoring in that she only played at the varsity level for three seasons. With hopes of studying to become a Physical Therapist, Pettis is intent on pursuing her athletic passion of playing collegiate soccer. At USA, Pettis will be joining forces with former CHS standout Shawna Trunca. Picking up Honorable mention for her fantastic freshman campaign was Cougar point guard Hannah Neild. As did her male counterpart Max Gouviea, Neild participated in the NH Chips underclassmen game at NHTI. In only her first season at the varsity level, Neild became part of the Lady Cougar big three with her playmaking ability and lethal long range shooting. As a high school round ball rookie, Neild already has her name inked into several statistical categories. Most noteworthy are this past season’s performances; 303 points scored (already 14th all-time at Campbell); 25 three-point field goals made (putting her sixth all-time), as well as 117 assists, incredibly seventh all-time and on pace to destroy the school record of 229, held by Jenny Evans.

Hampshire Technical Institute on Sunday, March 18. As one several important players on a deeply talented Cougar team, Gouviea said of his individual recognition; “it was cool to be honored” adding that it was also “very good for the team to have two honorable mentions” – referring to the recognition received by teammates John Houston and Jesiah Wade. Houston, who will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy in the fall, was a solid contributor in the scoring department as well as being a constant, physical force on the boards. Wade was often a catalyst off the bench, energizing the Cougar offense; proficient with drives to the hoop as well as outside shooting. For the state runner up Lady Cougars, Liz Pettis and Becca Arnone (see Arnone story) were awarded first team all-state honors while Hannah Neild received honorable mention. Pettis, on her way to receiving the 1st team All-State award, also finished third in the Player of the Year (POY) voting; an amazing accomplishment considering the fact that friend and teammate Becca Arnone was awarded that distinction. Having two players as pre-season favorites for POY ultimately finish in the top three in the balloting, is indicative of the D-3 dominance the Cougar displayed over the past two seasons. Pettis also had an incredible stint at Campbell- wrapping up her basketball career by playing in the Granite State Games (senior all-star game), also at NHTI. Noted as a scorer and excellent defensive player, Pettis’ major contribution to the team was arguably her overall court awareness and basketball intellect. Statistically, the Cougar senior,
