Hudson’s Shana Roystan Competes in Great North Woods Vintage Snowmobile Race

Shana Roystan of Hudson competed in the Vintage Races in Pittsburg on Saturday, March 17, on her Artic Cat.


She ran in the Powder Puff category. She did not win her class in this race, however, she has placed in first or second in the past four races of the season.


The Great North Woods Vintage Snowmobile Race Series sponsored by LaPerle’s IGA PLUS held its final race of the five race series in Pittsburg, this past Saturday, March 17, as scheduled. This race culminated the five race series, the only race series of its type in the Northeast. This race was originally planned to be held at


the Balsams but when it was sold late last fall and closed for a full-scale renovation at the long time Grand Resort, it was decided to move the final race of the season to Pittsburg. The track at the Farr Road pit in Pittsburg had been used for the first race of the season, as scheduled, along with the second of the season, which was originally


scheduled for Colebrook, but was relocated to Pittsburg because of lack of snow at the Northern Tire racetrack. The races started at 10 a.m. with a bright


blue sky and a high temperature of 55 degrees. This made for a very festive occasion while a crowd of 250 observed the final race in the series. There were 156 entries that raced around the course vying for a top spot in one of the 14 different classes available plus earning a place in the overall season crown. Once again the racers came from all of the New England state, including Shana Roystan of Hudson, plus Pennsylvania. This race series is the major fundraiser for the three sponsoring clubs: The Colebrook Ski-Bees, the Pittsburg Ridge Runners, and the Umbagog Snowmobile Association. The series has just completed its fifth season and has now raised in excess of $125,000 to held offset grooming, trail development, and equipment costs.

submitted by Mary Alice Boone Gymnasts representing Levels 5-8 traveled to Lincoln, RI, the weekend of March 3-4 to participate in the 2012 Ocean State Classic Gymnastics Meet. The Spectrum gymnasts competed against teams from all over the nation as well as international teams, and performed well among their respective age groups. Results for girls from Litchfield and Windham: Level 5: Kathryn Boone of Windham, first on beam and floor, third on bars and first All-Around. Samantha Parzych of Litchfield, first on vault, second on bars, third on beam and floor and second All-Around. Level 6: Lexi Grant of Litchfield, second on bars, third on vault and second All-Around.
