Everyone with small children or grandchildren will know how daunting it can be packing to take kids on holiday - along with the sense of disbelief at what is required once every nook and corner of the car is crammed with all of the equipment.


Big items such as buggies, travel cots and backpacks take enough space, before you even think about all those essentials like the bottle steriliser, feeding spoons, nappies, toys, books, changing mat, bottles, potty... the list goes on.


It was this very experience of taking his own three children away that made managing director of Saunton Sands Hotel, Pete Brend, question what the hotel could do to make family holidays easier for guests. He says, ‘With three children aged between 1 and 10, we were carting around an unbelievable amount of equipment just for a couple of days away with the kids, and I thought: there’s got to be a better way of doing it. If someone could make this a bit easier for parents they’d get my vote. That’s why we decided


to introduce the Baby-go- lightly scheme at the hotel. Basically, we’ll provide a huge amount of equipment which the guests reserve in advance from a simple tick sheet, then when they arrive it’s in their room - clean and ready to use.’


Pete says ‘We see it as part of our commitment to great service and to making sure that everyone - and that includes mums and dads - have a fantastic holiday.’


The scheme starts at Easter and to reserve your Baby-go-lightly items, simply ask on booking to be sent the tick sheet so that you can order items in advance. Easy.

New for 2012 is the hotel’s baby food service. Pureed broccoli and carrots required for little one’s lunch? No problem, just ask a member of staff and the chefs will prepare simple pureed fresh fruit and vegetables to order.
