The City of Avondale’s annual budget for fiscal year 2011-2012 totaled $163,154,810 which reflects the fourth year of decline in total funding. The operating budget totaled $75,169,500, a 2% increase over the prior year and the first increase in the operating budget in 5 years. The budget continues to be based on the community’s needs and City Council goals while maximizing available resources. The largest operating expense remains public safety at $25 million or 33%.

Despite the small signs of improvement in the national economy, Avondale will continue to maintain a conservative approach to financial planning to ensure stability as we continue to recover from the effects of a weak housing market. The state’s budget situation may also affect the budgets of local governments for years to come.
