The 2012 Wide Open Motorcycle Show St. Louis

Story and Photos by Loney Wilcoxson Just as it always does, it seems we no more than close

the doors on our Kansas City bike show, when it’s time to make the trek east on I-70 to St. Charles. Our St. Louis show this year was held on the weekend of February 11 and 12. When we got to St. Louis we were greeted by a big time drop in temperatures, lows back into the 20’s. I know I shouldn’t whine over normal temperatures for a winter month on the Midwest Coast, but we had enjoyed unseasonably warm temperatures in Kansas City, so the arctic blast seemed twice as cold as it truly was. We made our way to the usual hotel that has lodged us

the last several years. I stopped at the desk, identified my- self, and was met by the same blank stare I get every year. Just once I had hoped check-in would be smooth. We had left Kansas City after getting off work, and after the three- hour-plus drive on I-70 playing get around the slow tractor trailer, all I wanted to do was get a hot shower and a good night’s sleep. Usually the problem at the desk lies in some- one’s lack of ability to decipher Ralph’s hand writing. If you have ever seen a sample of his penmanship you’d under- stand. This year they had nothing for Wide Open on their books at all. I started to panic and got on the phone to my go to guy Jesse Roades. Somehow I didn’t get the memo we had a new sponsoring hotel. This was not the hassle I had immediately prepared myself for. Our new hotel was just across the parking lot. The Quality Inn and Suites at St. Charles was a marked upgrade from the previous hotel. Stephanie, the night desk manager, and her crew had our room key in our hands within 5 minutes of hitting the front desk. Things were getting off on the right foot. The following morning my wife Stephanie and I made our way over to the awful waffle a.k.a. The Waffle House for

New St. Charles Harley-Davidson facility.

Winner of the bike drawing, Ryan Buneta of Edwardsville, IL is pictured here with his new Harley-Davidson Super Glide. St Charles Harley- Davidson sponsored the drawing at the St. Louis Bike Show.
