Visit Of Ntu Chamber Choir to Torrevieja / La Zenia
Following their highly successful visit to Spain last year, the famous choir from the UK - the Nottingham Trent University (NTU) Chamber Choir - are making a return visit this month. They are again conducted by their Director of Music, Matthew Hopkins, who is a well-known singer, choral and orchestral conductor across the UK and Europe. He is also known locally as leader of the professional band which accompanies the Melody Makers International concerts in the Orihuela Costa Resort twice each year.
The fi rst concert will be held on Monday 26th March in the Virgen del Carmen Theatre in Torrevieja. The concert commences at 8pm ... and will consist of a varied programme of popular, sacred, and classical songs, and incorporating items from their talented soloists. The concert is FREE, and tickets may be obtained upon request from the Municipal Box Offi ce in Torrevieja, or on the door before the performance.
The second concert will be held at the church of Santa Maria del Mar, La Zenia, on Friday 30th March at 8pm. Part of this concert will be a performance of the Choral Suite from Karl Jenkins' 'The Armed Man'. For this performance, the NTU Choir will be joined by leading local choir, In Harmony, conducted by the famous local conductor Nigel Hopkins - father of Matthew Hopkins.
Both conductors agree that this music is amongst the most beautiful that has ever been heard in the liturgical repertoire. Another feature of this concert will be a duet given by both Nigel and Matthew Hopkins - only the second time that the two professional singers have performed together. Entrance to this concert is 5€, with proceeds going to the new church building fund.
The NTU Choir is taking time out of their busy schedule during the week to perform to the pupils of the El Limonar International School at Villamartin. This is part of their cultural sharing programme that they do in whichever country they perform.
Music lovers are urged to support and enjoy the music of this unique choir from the UK - an opportunity not to be missed.
