Bottomless lift spooks shoppers at Southside

Shoppers were given a fright as they stepped into a lift at Southside shopping centre in Wandsworth, London. When the doors opened, they were only inches away from plummeting down a bottomless lift shaft. Or at least that is what it seemed… The experiment was set up to

test the fear-factor of the British public in preparation for the launch of Alton Towers Resort’s new

attraction – Nemesis Sub-Terra, opening on 24 March. Unsuspecting shoppers were

fooled by a 3D illusion on the floor of the lift. One shopper said: “A deep, dark lift shaft is not what you expect to see on your average trip to the shops. It gave me a bit of a fright, but I quickly realised the joke was on me! I then had a laugh watching other people’s reactions a they walked past.”

Star treatment at Croatian mall

Angelina Jolie sprinkled some A List glamour around the Arena Centar in the Croatian capital of Zagreb earlier this month, when she attended the Croatian premiere of her directorial and screenwriting debut ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’ at the shopping centre’s CineStar Arena IMAX cinema.

Whilst thousands of

screaming fans packed the centre, relishing the screen idol’s hour-long appearance on the red carpet, retailers, centre

management and the shopping centre’s owners were jumping for joy as they experienced one of the centre’s most successful trading days.

Centre director, Gary Burrows put the success of the event down to the power of combining retail and leisure. “Angelina Jolie may be happy, but with the centre packed and spread across the headlines, rest assured the Arena Centar management team and owners are beside themselves,” he said.

Get ready for the races

In preparation for the race season, McArthurGlen hired a model to show off collections from Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet at Chester Racecourse, which it is sponsoring this year. The racing season accounts for 25 per cent of total annual spring

fashion sales at McArthurGlen’s Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, which is expecting 1.5 million fashion-conscious shoppers over the next eight weeks, ahead of the first race in early May. Centre manager Mark Schofield said: “This is the first year we’re sponsoring Chester Races, with the racing season one of the biggest occasion fashion buying periods of the year. Shoppers visit us from Manchester, Liverpool and Chester to find leading brands for up to 60 per cent less. Many buy a new outfit each year whereas others re-invent an existing outfit with accessories, spending anything between £200 and £1,000.”
