Plans for a major new cinema and restaurant development at The Meads in Farnborough have been approved by Rushmoor Borough Council’s planning committee. The proposals from St.

New western concourse opens at King’s Cross
Network Rail has completed the new western concourse, the most spectacular part of the five-year programme to restore and improve King’s Cross station. More than 45m passengers a year will benefit from a raft of improvements when it opens to the public on March 19. Passenger benefits
include 27,000 sq ft of retail space, including Accessorize, American Apparel, Boots, Hotel Chocolat, ICE, Kiehl’s, Oliver Bonas, Paperchase, T M Lewin, W H Smith and Watermark. And catering units have been taken by Benito’s Hat, Caffe Nero, Fullers, Giraffe, Leon, M&S Simply Food, Pasty Shop, Pret A Manger,
screen Vue cinema and new restaurants totalling 35,000 sq ft.
It is hoped the development
will revitalise Farnborough town centre and create a night-time economy.
James Stockdale,
development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “We had excellent feedback from our pre-application consultations and it was clear that, for a long time, local people have been keen to see a cinema come to Farnborough. This
positive decision is therefore a significant step forward in our ongoing plans for the regeneration of Farnborough.” St. Modwen expects to start
work on the new development later this year, with the cinema trading in late 2013.
Green light for Bromley regeneration
Prezzo, Starbucks, Upper Crust, Wasabi and Yalla Yalla. There is also a wide range
of improved facilities including better lighting, larger destination boards and clearer station announcements. A new roof structure has been blended with the station’s heritage to create a space for passengers that is three-times larger than the current concourse, with
improved links to both the London Underground network and St Pancras station. Gavin McKechnie, Network
Rail’s head of retail, said: “The new retail and dining mix at King’s Cross will be one of the best at a British station, which is great news for passengers, and will complement the increased capacity and better facilities which will also be available.”
Cathedral Group has had its plans approved for a £90m mixed-use scheme, which will kick-start the regeneration of Bromley town centre. The Westmoreland Road car park will be demolished and replaced with a mixed- use leisure development, transforming the south end of Bromley High Street into a new residential and leisure quarter. A landscaped public plaza
will be surrounded by a nine- screen multiplex cinema, 25,000 sq ft of cafés and restaurants, a 130-bedroom hotel, 200 private and affordable apartments and a new, modern 400-space underground car park. Work is expected to be
complete in 2014.
