Chandler firms, clubs to join ‘Bash of the Century’

With the Centennial Celebration

Weekend less than three months away, organizers are inviting all Chandler busi- nesses, clubs and service organizations to participate in the festivities. The largest event, the Bash of the Century, is a com- munity celebration of Chandler’s rich his- tory and heritage at Tumbleweed Park Sat., May 19. The deadline to submit applica- tions for the “Bash” is April 2. “The Bash is expected to draw a large, diverse

crowd to the park for an afternoon and evening of entertainment, food, classic and modern games and fireworks,” according to Special Events Coordinator Hermelinda Llamas. The Centennial Steering Committee is seeking

vendors and local businesses that want to have a sales or information booth at the event. Booths are also available for service and nonprofit organiza- tions, clubs and other community groups. Members of these organizations and the general public are also welcome to volunteer to assist with various aspects of the event. “This is the big event everyone has been waiting

for, the party that will bring the community together and the culmination of the Celebration Weekend,” says Jean Reynolds, Chandler’s Centennial coordi- nator. “We need help from business leaders, service clubs, schools, nonprofit agencies, religious institu- tions and others to make it a party worthy of this great city. It’s a great opportunity to tell people who

you are and what you’re about.” Many of Chandler’s pioneer fami-

lies will also have a presence at the event, and Reynolds is encouraging all area families to use the event as an opportunity to commemorate their role in building the community. “It’s a great place to hold a family reunion on that day, or to just throw

down a blanket and have a picnic with family and friends. We want this to be a celebration of our peo- ple, institutions and community values.” Chandler’s centennial festivities include the

“Happy 100th Birthday Chandler! Celebration” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thu., May 17 at City Hall. The following evening, from 4 to 10 p.m. Fri., May 18, the monthly Chandler Art Walk will fea- ture “100 Artists Celebrating 100 Years” in historic downtown Chandler. The weekend concludes with the “Chandler Bash of the Century” from 4 to 10 p.m. Sat., May 19 at Tumbleweed Park, 2250 S. McQueen Rd. Potential “Bash of the Century” ven- dors should be able to provide information to the community about their business or organization, sell merchandise or sell food or beverages. Complete details, including vendor booth fees and the application, are on the Chandler Centennial website at www.chandler100th.com. Questions about becoming a vendor or having an information booth can be directed to 480-782-2665. To volun- teer to help at the event, call 480-782-2226.
