News has been helping with fundraising efforts for ICAN, a great youth program. Thanks to the work of many individuals, businesses small and large around the state, they are in the process of
moving into a brand new facility at Folley Park that will much better serve the growing needs of the community. We're hoping for another beautiful day on Sat., April 14 as we hold our
5th annual ICAN Family Fun Run & 5K at the beautiful Tumbleweed Park. Serious runners will get the timed race they’ve been asking for along the Paseo Trail, and others of all ages can walk, stroll, bike or meander on another easy route at Tumbleweed. Online registration is already avail- able, so register in advance for a discounted price and a guaranteed dry- wick T-shirt. Rain or shine, gather at the McDowell Pavilion before and after the
race for lots of goodies, vendor booths and prizes. It's going to be lots of fun! For details, see the story in the Business section. WE appreciate your reading the SanTan Sun News and supporting our

Science fair seriously spectacular

Science Spectacular. Rarely do we see such unifying collab- oration among the business
commu- nity, school districts,
municipal and nonprofit leaders as they worked to celebrate science and technology in an open and inclusive manner. The event proved again that Chandler stands as a world-class community in providing out- standing opportunities for scientists, entre- preneurs and students. My sincere gratitude goes to all those

involved in planning and promoting the events, particularly those serving on the Chandler Education Coalition, contributing companies, artists and scientists, school administrators, as well as all the residents who attended. The turnout was phenome- nal. More than 1,000 residents took part in the company tours on Thursday evening, hundreds came out to the night of Art and Science on Friday, and the daytime Saturday events throughout our downtown drew large crowds as well. It was indeed “spectacular” to witness the
interest and enthusiasm of the participants, and as a result, the festival will become an annual occurrence in Chandler. One of the most unique aspects of the
event was the Tech Crawl arranged by our Economic Development staff. Residents had the opportunity to tour and discover the amazing research and development taking place behind a number of prestigious com- panies’ normally closed doors. They include Microchip, Intel Corporation, Air Products, as well as Amkor, Serious Integrated, Cummings Engineering and the University of Arizona located at our Innovations Incubator. Scientists and company represen-
turned into a new scene with artists display- ing entertaining looks at the application of science in crafts, music, food and more. It was the largest Art Walk in the history of Chandler. Thanks

to the Chandler
Downtown Community Partnership for pro- viding this outstanding opportunity. From an educational standpoint, I congrat-
ulate all the students and teachers who showcased their skills at the Center for the Arts on Saturday. They demonstrated that Chandler is well positioned to prepare the next generation of science professionals. Not only do we have strong school districts but also an entire community ready and willing to support innovative initiatives. The com- panies and organizations that participated in the Downtown demonstrations exemplify this forward thinking support. As was demonstrated by the presidential
visit to Intel not long ago, Chandler is rec- ognized nationally for its long-term eco- nomic achievements. And the key to sustaining prosperity is to continue promot- ing math and science in early education, inspiring our youth to greatness. Chandler’s Science Spectacular continues that tradition.
