◆ SAFETY improvements have been made at one of Wickford’smost popular parks. Apartnership project between Basildon Council and Shotgate Parish Council, which has already seen new play equipment installed in Shotgate Park, has now provided fencing for an enclosed children’splay area. The work, which cost £5,580, was paid


for by the parish council, and approved by Basildon Council who oversaw the work.


◆ NEW trees have been donated to The Wick Country Park as part of aLions Club International tree planting campaign. They areamong seven million trees that


have been planted around the world as past of the campaign, which aims to demonstrate the international strength of the organisation. The 10 trees, bought and donated by the Basildon and WickfordLions Club, include native wild cherry and wild service trees that have been chosen to provide avaluable source of food for the park's wildlife, specifi- cally declining bee species and wintering birds.


◆ PUPILS at aWickfordschool played host to five Chinese students in last month as part of an exchange trip. The visitors from Bejing Chen Jing Lun Middle Schools stayed with families of pupils from The Bromfords School. Assistant headteacher,Tony Bennett, organised the exchange visit.


◆ UP-and-coming events at Wick Country Park include aBirdSong Walk and a Skylarks 3k Race. The Friends of Wick Country park are hosting afreeBirdSong Walk on Sunday, April 15, when visitors can join them and the Park Ranger for aspring stroll at 10am. They arealso organising aSkylarks 3K

The centre, in Market Road, is vital to the community as it home to arange of clubs, for both local adults and children. The centrealso has excellent facilities including wheelchair access, alarge hall that can be hired for avari- ety of occasions, and asmaller hall and kitchen facilities. The Art Exhibition, which runs from 10am to


4pm on Saturday,Sunday and Monday,April 7 to 9, is free to enter and anyone is welcome to come along.


RT loverswill be spoilt for choice when an exhibition is held at WickfordCommunity Centre over the Easter weekend.
