41ST ANNUAL

Hi Desert Round-Up kicking off

DAVE HENRY

As many of you know Hi Desert Round-up was cancelled again this year because no one stepped up to chair the event. I was starting to get that Déjà vu feeling again until Steve Egbert, the vice president of the Central District stepped up and said he would chair the event. Since no permit had been applied for,

great group of responsible OHV enthusi- asts who respect our recreational oppor- tunities here in the southland. Since this will be a state event in the South District chaired by the Central District VP, we are hoping that we get a lot of support from the Central District, even though it’s only a couple of weeks after the Central District Molina Ghost Run. And by the way, Steve Egbert is also the chair of that event. Talk about dedication. We are already in the process of putting together our committees. If you did a game and or helped in any way with last year’s event, would like to vol- unteer again this year and haven’t been contacted yet, then contact us! These are highly prestigious sought after

positions, so act now!

South District NRC John Stewart made a call to the BLM to see what could be done, if anything. Larry Blaine from the BLM agreed to fast track the permit. This is a very big deal and we owe a huge debt of thanks to the Barstow BLM. Based in part on our forty year track record with the BLM and the fact that we always leave the area cleaner than when we arrived, we will have our 41st HDR after all. And this is because we have a

and all the runs and ter- rain are new. The runs were rated as top notch by last year’s participants. Unlike last year, we will have more that just three weeks to put this event together. We are hoping you will join us for a great OHV experience at HDR 2012. Last year was one of those years where the wind

blew, and then it blew some more. It quit Sunday night after the event closed. The wind can be blamed on my wife, Val. She said that she was so busy she didn’t have time to do her hair and she wanted everyone else to look just as bad as she did. Thanks Val! So this year I’m going to get her up a little earlier so she can do her hair and maybe we won’t have the wind. This area of Johnson Valley is fairly new to a lot of four-wheelers, and so are the trails. It’s mostly overlooked for the more aggressive trails at the Hammers, but this area has a lot to offer, too. There will be runs for all classes of vehicles, including runs to the Hammers for those who are willing to test their vehicles and skills. All of your new favorites will be back this year and I’m sure that after this year’s event you will have a few more. We will also have your favorite games on hand and maybe a new one or two.
