VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT STEVE EGBERT CENTRAL DISTRICT VICE PRESIDENT

Well one year done as your Central District Vice President and a question comes to mind: Why?

Why have so many put so much effort into Cal 4 for over fifty years? I would think they, like myself: • Love our state and the unique areas that it offers for a variety of recreational experiences.

• The satisfaction of building something we can use for our recreational experience.

• The satisfaction of helping others obtains a quality recreational experience.

• The satisfaction of working with others to a common goal. I often wonder why so few work so hard for the good of many, many that show so much apathy to what’s going on around them and may affect them. Well I guess this is just too big of a ques- tion because it not only related to us, members of the off-road community, but it could be asked of many things in

our lives. So I thank all who help in our efforts and encourage positive progress. My list of why’s will keep me working on and I hope you have a list of why’s that keep you working, moving forward and always looking for a positive outcome. I have continued to push forward on the membership plan 5000 by 2015, though progress has been slower than I would have hoped, the plans have not stalled and we will need a big push into 2012 to make the goal. We need help to implement some parts of the plan and ideas to refine other parts.

I was happy to help in the Cal 4 booth in Hammertown USA recently — we sold some Jeep tickets, and talked to lots of people about issues facing Johnson Valley and the state in regards to access. I thank Hammerking Productions for giving me the chance to spread our message to the entire internet audience during the driver introductions, I know the message got out there because a viewer in North Carolina called her husband who was in Johnson Valley at the event and told him to pur- chase some Jeep tickets, which he did. Molina 2012 is scheduled for May 11,

12 and 13 at Hollister, and yes I know it is Mother’s Day weekend. We will be doing something special for all the moth- ers that are there. I hope everyone can attend this fun event that each year raises much need funds for the association. This is our 38th year and we look forward to many more.

I have been active in the association since 2004 when I joined Lock and Low Four Wheel Drive Club of Visalia and began helping with Molina. I later became Molina Co-Chair and for the last six years have been chairman. I have become friends with many of you through Molina or another Cal 4 event. This past year at Sierra Trek I was reflecting on how many friends I have gained since I became more involved in the association. One reason I became so involved was the loss of my wife in October 2005, involvement helped me through a tough time and I am grate- ful for all the new friends I have gained. If I do not personally know you now, maybe we can wheel together at a future event and become friends in the future, I look forward to it. IG
