The Away En takes a look back at some notable League Cup finals
The League Cup may be Scotland’s second cup competition, but by no means is it second best when it comes to excitement.

FOR 66 years, SFL and latterly SPL member clubs have been competing to win one of only three domestic honours. Countless fascinating stories have emerged from the League Cup through the years and here are just a few:
East Fife: Minnows East Fife were incredibly successful in the competition’s early days, winning the trophy on three of the first eight occasions. They defeated Falkirk in 1947, Dunfermline in 1949 and Partick Thistle in 1953. Under legendary manager Scot Symon – who would later manage a highly successful Rangers side – the Fifers’ had an excellent side that was also able to challenge in the league.
Celtic 7 Rangers 1, 1957: The biggest margin of victory in a League Cup final, and Celtic’s biggest ever win over Rangers. A Billy McPhail hat-trick, two from Neil Mochan and one each from Sammy Wilson and Willie Fernie completed the quite remarkable rout.
