James Sinclair conductor

Programme to include: Copland Fanfare for the Common Man Ives Universe Symphony (European premiere)

The Academy Symphony Orchestra is joined by musicians from the Britten-Pears Orchestra and Aldeburgh Young Musicians for the closing concert of the Aldeburgh Festival 2012. The Universe Symphony, written for a myriad of ensembles surrounding a huge and unconventional orchestra, was never completed and was only subsequently performed as fantasies or fragments, achieving almost mythical status. Leading Ives interpreter and scholar James Sinclair conducts the European premiere of the work as Ives left it almost 100 years ago, using every corner of Snape Maltings, its airy acoustics and idyllic surroundings as a single vast performance space.
