George Benjamin Piano Figures; Three Miniatures for solo violin; Viola, Viola; Shadowlines

Musical fireworks, brilliant instrumental effects and haunting purity — an opportunity to hear dazzling chamber works by celebrated British composer George Benjamin, introduced by the composer himself. The concert by Academy students includes the highly virtuosic Viola, Viola, in which two violas combine to create a ‘super’ instrument displaying a breathtaking spectrum of range and emotions. Shadowlines exhibits the gorgeous and transformative effects of Benjamin’s music. In contrast to these are the beautiful, texturally spare Three Miniatures for solo violin.

Part of a weekend of concerts at the Southbank Centre.
