Aural & Transcription Big Band and Jazz Composition Octets


This concert features music by Bob Brookmeyer’s New Art Orchestra, an eighteen-piece ensemble created in Lübeck in the mid-1990s, transcribed by third-year jazz students as part of their Aural & Transcription course. The second half of the concert features octet compositions by fourth-year students under the direction of Pete Churchill.

Academy singers present a selection of French mélodies based on animal fables. Including works by Ravel, Poulenc, Rosenthal, Milhaud, Sauguet, Caplet, Chabrier and Séverac, this programme is devised and accompanied by Academy Hodgson Fellow Edwige Herchenroder.

Brahms String Sextet no.1 in B flat, op.18 Mendelssohn Octet in E flat, op.20


The Piatti Quartet join Tunnell Trust and Royal Over- Seas League Award winners the Castalian Quartet to perform a concert of chamber masterworks. Both quartets are Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellows at the Academy.
