CAVATINA Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition

Beethoven String Quartet no.1 in F, op.18 no.1
In memory of Gerard Heller and Rosemary Rapaport. Eight UK conservatoires have been invited to nominate a student string quartet to take part in this inter- collegiate prize hosted by the Academy, generously supported by the CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust. The competition will be adjudicated by Paul Watkins.

Thomas Brandis in Residence

Thomas Brandis, former Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Professor of Violin at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck and Griller Chair of Chamber Music at the Academy, works with string quartets, piano trios and violinists. The year’s work will culminate in a concert on Tuesday 8th May.

Soundbox is a series of events inspired by the Academy’s museum and collections. Presented by Peter Sheppard Skærved, Viotti Lecturer, the events explore the historical and contemporary relationships between performers, composers, instruments and instrument-makers.
