walls and timber tray ceilings 10-18 feet high. The furniture, much of it hand carved mahogany, was inspired by the hotel’s original antiques. High-speed Internet access and central air-conditioning is standard in every residence. Open kitchens feature granite counters and top-of-the-line appliances, while marble bathrooms include whirlpool tubs and spa showers. Additionally, Crane residences offer amenities not usually found in luxury hotels, such as large private swimming pools, private gardens with dining gazebos, private roof decks and BBQ grills.

The Crane’s luxury amenities and services comprise of four unique restaurants, including Zen, rated #1 for Food in Barbados by Zagat; two bars; a full-service day spa; two flood-lit tennis courts; five outdoor pools encompassing one of the Caribbean’s most stunning waterscape pool complexes; a glass-fronted elevator to Crane Beach; 40 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds; a multi-purpose conference facility; and a unique 30,000 square foot “Village” modelled after a 19th century Barbadian streetscape, complete with an ice cream shop/café, a general store, duty-free shops, and a state-of-the-art fitness centre. Each residence benefits from the resort’s complimentary international telephone calls and WiFi, 24 hour security and front desk, and daily concierge, room service, housekeeping and pool and beach service. The Crane will soon be adding two additional restaurants, a movie theatre, a beauty salon and a Kids Club.

Our goal of becoming “the world’s most luxurious fractional ownership property” has been validated by RCI®, the world’s largest fractional ownership exchange company, who awarded The Crane with point values higher than every other resort in the world; and by our membership in The Registry Collection®, who include only the most luxurious fractional properties and private residence clubs in their exchange network [rci.com, theregistrycollection.com]. The Crane’s AAA 4-Diamond award, one of only four given in Barbados, attests to the level of our luxurious amenities and accommodation.

Crane owners have a wealth of options in how to take advantage of their ownership interest. They can use the specific residence and weeks they originally chose; or exchange for any residence or weeks at The Crane; or use unequalled trading power to exchange to any of the 4,500 RCI® Points resorts in the world; or exchange for any of the 190 super-luxury fractional resorts in The Registry Collection®.

Crane owners also have the option, for any unused weeks, to join Crane’s Rental Pool. The success of this program is demonstrated by the fact that every year, for the past 7 years, every Crane owner has covered all costs and made at least a small profit for every week made available to the Crane’s rental pool. We also achieved the goal of creating a liquid asset for our owners that has appreciated in value over time. Over the last 10 years, Crane owners on average made a profit after commissions on the resale of their property, even during the recent recession.

We are now very excited about our new planned project on a 50 acre site at Skeete’s Bay, the last parcel of land available for development on the outskirts of the East Coast National Park. The new development, called Beach Houses at Culpepper, will follow The Crane’s business model and will offer luxury accommodations, amenities and services. The fundamental difference will lie in the architecture. The Crane is traditional and colonial, while Beach Houses at Culpepper will feature modern, clean, environmentally sensitive designs and will convey the casual elegance found in traditional Barbadian beach houses. The development will be extremely low density with only 62 free-standing beach houses and a 29-unit boutique hotel. Each beach house will provide a panoramic ocean view, a large swimming pool, hot tub, garden and BBQ grill.

Since the turn of the millennium, the Crane has grown from 18 rooms to the 252-room Crane Residential Resort, with another 30 units under construction. We are looking forward to being a part of Barbados’ development landscape for many more years to come.
