The Red Book®

2012

Happy 5th birthday to The Red Book! That’s right, this is the fifth edition of The Red Book in Barbados. Since the original publication professionals across the real estate, legal, and finance industries have come to recognise The Red Book as the definitive source for credible industry data. We are always pleased to hear from clients requesting further detailed information on the market to help them make decisions.

Each year we focus on improving the content of The Red Book and this year I would like to make a special mention of the knowledge management and marketing teams for their relentless focus on innovation. Again they have found ways to improve the content and the presentation of the information. The Luxury Homes section is a new feature highlighting properties at the highest end of the Barbados market. As we continue to align more closely with Bajan Services and leverage the synergies and strengths of the two companies, this segment of the market will complete our product portfolio offering clients a comprehensive range of properties on the island.

The Holiday Rentals market has been outperforming the broader tourism market in Barbados over the last year. Bajan Services has been well positioned to both be a catalyst for change in this segment as well as to benefit from the changes. You will see an analysis of the returns from this segment presented by Hayden Hutton in the Pink Pages of this edition. We have also added a more robust chart on community levies to assist owners and prospective owners in their overall decision-making.

The last 2 years have been the most challenging for firms like ours that rely on transaction volume to earn revenue. We are very proud that during that period we have been able to continue to invest in our knowledge resources with a dedicated knowledge management team and the expansion of our proprietary database capabilities to capture, analyse and report market data. Further we have strengthened our team through a commitment to training for all of our people. We were very pleased to see team members qualifying as Chartered Surveyors with RICS; attaining the acclaimed CCIM designation; and qualifying as Certified Knowledge Managers during 2011.

The Brokerage division expanded its agents base, Property Management added new managers and properties, and Holiday Rentals have expanded their offering and referral sources. We certainly are firing on all cylinders!

The Red Book is a reflection of our mission to provide you with the best information so that you can make an informed decision. We stand ready to assist you in whatever capacity you need whether it be deciding what to rent or buy, sell or acquire, develop or hold, and we have the people and the systems to maximise the return from your investment through professional property management and holiday rentals.

If you know us already we hope to see more of you. If you are considering us for the first time, give us a call – our time is free but our knowledge is invaluable.
