AWC And Barbados Will Set The Standard With Five-star Medical Tourism

Conceptual drawing – subject to change

When speaking with business and government leaders from around the world about American World Clinics, we’re consistently told the same thing, “You chose the best island in the Caribbean for this project.” As we evaluated locations for American World Clinics’ flagship destination, we measured destinations against a variety of criteria including:

• Stability of government • English-speaking country • Organised focus on business development • Receptivity to foreign investment • Availability of technology infrastructure • Quality of functional infrastructure: roads, water, etc…

• Environmental safety • Access to and from international markets • Availability of educated workforce • Local medical education • Safety for visitors • Existing environment of “hospitality” • Quality of life for our staff

In our assessment, Barbados was the only nation to receive five-star ratings in each category.

That five-star rating was necessary because providing sophisticated, “five-star”

a resort setting is the cornerstone of American World Clinics – Barbados business model. Long known for it’s quiet hospitality, Barbados welcomes the world’s most discerning travellers, business magnates,

superstars among others. Yet one piece has been missing until now. As a major Barbados developer commented during a recent visit, “Those private jets lined up at Grantley Adams are always ready to fly north in the event of a medical emergency.” Once American World Clinics – Barbados opens its doors, expert care on an urgent, as well as an elective basis, will be available within a state of the art medical campus staffed by a diverse coterie of international specialists from the United States and Barbados. This will elevate the level of private healthcare not only on the island, but also within the entire region.

The five market segments served by American World Clinics include:

• Int’l medical travellers seeking innovative, high quality surgical, dental and medical specialty care • Expatriates’ and part-time residents seeking primary and urgent care services • International medical transport, stabilisation and definitive care for emergencies including acute cardiovascular events, critical care, and trauma

• CARICOM residents seeking an alternative destination to the U.S.A. for specialty surgical care

• Tourists seeking elective and urgent care while visiting Barbados and the region

Subsequent specialty centres focusing on cardiovascular, neurosciences, and oncology care are planned. AWC-Barbados will offer U.S. trained physicians along with similarly credentialed UK, Canadian, Barbadian and European physicians who represent the best within their specialties. Complementing the medical staff will be facility and support staff dedicated to making the word “exceptional” commonplace in describing a visit to AWC. As AWC’s CEO and Chairman, Paul Angelchik, MD, noted, “Our facility development will be spearheaded by HDR, the leading healthcare architectural firm in the world for the past eight years as reported by Modern Healthcare magazine, and will comply with Joint Commission International’s accreditation standards at minimum. Our medical staff will be selected from outstanding physicians, board certified in their specialty, and our support staff will the best Barbados and the world has to offer.”

As Dr. Angelchik went on to explain, AWC will use innovative data management systems to track and measure the quality of care rendered by physicians and other staff, and will use that data as a teaching instrument to create an environment of performance improvement founded on education, collaboration

and collegiality. A sophisticated

one-stop patient Internet portal will facilitate scheduling both medical appointments and travel planning for visitors to Barbados.

While AWC leadership sees these high levels of medical and service quality as elemental to their
