Where to Stay

Enjoying Prague Our Editor, Hannah Gibbons, takes you with her on a journey to the Maximilian Hotel in Prague.

It can be very daunting staying in a hotel room alone. There's something a little sad about counting how many free teabags and biscuits you get when there's nobody there to be excited with you. This was the case when I was staying at the Maximilian Hotel in Prague, and before arriving I wasn't looking forward to my quiet evening in the room.

When I walked into the hotel, all my worries immediately melted away when the delightful hotel staff greeted me, and I was invited to sample some delicious local

pastries waiting at the reception desk – what a way to win a ladies heart! The room itself was delightful, with the kind of comfortable bed that you only seem to find in a lovely hotel, and facilities were more than suitable for my stay. Prague is a delightful city with so much to do and see. I was lucky enough to be taken out for dinner in the evening, where I sampled some amazing Czech food (and drink…) that was delicious. Prague is filled with an atmosphere that I hadn't been expecting. I had heard of

friends visiting for cheap weekends spent partying, so I anticipated a sea of tourist bars, but I was delighted to find a real sophistication to the city. Walking through Prague late at night feels very safe, and the moonlight is a beautiful illuminator of the amazing architecture. One of the first things that struck me about the city is the fact that the buildings there are like none I’d ever seen before. It was like being thrown into the setting of a fairytale - and I loved it! Breakfast in the hotel was absolutely lovely, with warm offerings alongside fresh fruits and yogurt for a refreshing start to the morning. The hotel had quiet rooms near the reception area where I was able to sit for a half hour and happily catch up on some work without being confined to the hotel room. This was a great space to answer emails and get my head around the day after breakfast. The Maximilian is perfectly situated near to all of Prague's wonderful attractions, and I look forward to visiting again in the near future - for pleasure rather than work next time!
