levels and colour balance – something we’ve never quite been able to achieve until now”.

The popularity of the downlight has infiltrated commercial and residential areas alike. However, as downlights can be awkward to replace, the long lifespan and relatively small footprint that can be developed with LED technology makes the LED downlight an attractive prospect. As a result, a number of LED downlights are coming into the market as a viable solution for designs with downlights in mind.

Part of the Havells Sylvania brand, Lumiance is just one company who has channeled the potential of the LED downlight to create a truly flexible energy efficient solution. The Lumiance Instar Mini LED is a small and powerful product, with a shallow luminaire depth of just 37mm. This is the newest addition to the Instar Swing LED family, and is available in three finishes: white, chrome and brushed iron. In order to suit a number of applications, the product comes with a choice of colour temperatures, and is fully adjustable with a 25° or 45° beam angle.

“This is an excellent extension to the 14

Instar family of products,” says Matt Carpenter, Strategic Business Unit Director Lumiance, at Havells-Sylvania. “It is simple to install and, thanks to its LED technology, appeals to the many organisations looking to reduce their carbon footprint and total life cycle costs of new build or refurbishment lighting projects. It’s a perfect solution for so many lighting applications.” The product has aesthetic appeal, and is designed for functionality with easy installation by way of a ‘plug and play’ connecting system. Havell’s Sylvania themselves have been working hard to promote the use of LEDs in the retail environment. As well as being great for colour rendering in stores, LEDs are also ideal because of the lack of heat generated by them. In a changing room, customers are making decisions on

whether or not to hand over their hard earned money, so retailers want them to be as comfortable as possible. Often a changing room can be a stuffy and uncomfortable space, putting customers off even trying items on, but the use of LEDs allows retailers to create a bright space in which customers can properly see the fit of items, without causing uncomfortable temperatures. The new RefLED SA111 lamp from Havells-Sylvania has helped create an energy saving, low maintenance and high performance lighting scheme for the changing room area of the All Saints store at Westfield, London. Supplied in warm white, the RefLED SA111 is designed to be a direct replacement for its halogen equivalent and features excellent thermal management, meaning All Saints
