Diamond Jubilee
Queen’s The
Get the party started
The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is fast approaching and the celebrations will span the entire weekend from 2nd - 5th June including the two day bank holiday. If you are considering a street party, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council are keen to help you do this in the safest way possible. The Council has produced guidance and an application pack for people interested in holding a party, and there are various things to consider if you choose this option, including securing a road closure for your street. There is usually a charge made to administer road closures, but in the spirit of the celebrations, the Council will waive the costs. To avoid disappointment the Council are asking residents to think about hosting parties in local venues, such as, community centres, schools or local parks to ensure that parties are safely organised and are not affected by the weather. If you feel that a Street Party is the best way for you to celebrate then you need to contact the Council’s Traffic Management section by 1st May. For further information or to apply for a Road Closure contact the Traffic Management team on 01443 494812 or download the guidance, application form and terms and conditions at

Discover the
benefits of the internet
If you are 50 or over, want to learn something new and need some tips for getting the most out of the internet, then the Do-IT project is for you. Led by RCT Homes, the Do-IT project offers a free introduction to the benefits and practical uses of digital technology and the internet. Anyone who is aged 50 and over and lives in Rhondda Cynon Taf can sign up. Sessions will include basic IT, email and internet, mobile phone workshops, family ancestry and digital photography plus lots more. The Do-IT project is currently running in Pontypridd, Ton Pentre, Aberdare, Treorchy and Porth. Interested? Simply phone Andrew Roberts on 07765 221014 or 08453 014141. Aubrey Coates from Beddau was one of the first people in RCT to benefit from the free one-to-one training available from the Do-IT project and highly recommends the service: “I think the service is really worthwhile. The
sessions were in my own home and I’ve learnt how to find my way around websites to get some great deals on holidays. I am pretty good at picking things up so this gave me the jump start I needed to get going.”
