REY BORN TO DIE ON SALE: Now

Song titles Dark Paradise and

Summertime Sadness sum up the sexy, summery and yet dark theme running throughout Lana Del Rey’s sophomore release. The 12 tracks could be the soundtrack to a Tarantino movie, while Million Dollar Man has the necessary components of a Bond theme. Del Rey chooses her voice depending on the characters she’s playing, from brooding, affected or coquettish plaything, switching from a deep dredged-up drawl with bass guitar and echoey drum machine, to a cutesy Betty Boop, singing of ice cream and cinnamon. ::::

PET SHOP

BOYS FORMAT ON SALE: Now

Aimed with laser- like precision at

their legion of fans, this latest Pet Shop Boys album collects 38 B-sides and other bonus tracks, spanning the latter half of the band’s career, from 1996’s Bilingual to 2009’s Yes. It’s a belated follow up to Alternative, released more than 16 years ago, which featured B-sides from 1985 to 1994. It’s a quirky mix, for sure, with We’re The Pet Shop Boys one of the standout tracks.::

GREEN DAY ON THE RADIO ON SALE: Now

Whether you think this latest Green Day offering is a

rip-off or a must-have will be down to how much you like their music. On The Radio is a rare live-to-air set recorded in 1992 when the band stopped off at radio station WFMU in New Jersey. Previously available as a poor quality bootleg, this much-improved recording features songs from Green Day’s first two albums, early EPs and a couple of covers.::

Michelle Williams as Marilyn sets the screen alight with a mesmerising tribute to a tragic and vulnerable star

DVD

THE THREE MUSKETEERS Luke Evans • Mathew Macfadyen ON SALE: 27th February

This latest adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic adventure novel is full of the sort of ludicrous over-the-top action sequences you’d expect, but its brisk pace and bulging special effects budget can’t mask the hammy acting, nonsensical plot or by-the-numbers swashbuckling that lurks beneath the surface gloss. None of the three leads possess a snuffbox full of charisma between them, while Logan Lerman’s portrayal of aspiring Musketeer, D’Artagnan, comes straight from the Shia LaBeouf School For Phoning In Performances. Lacking a Johnny Depp- type character on which to hang the threadbare script.:::

MY WEEK WITH MARILYN Michelle Williams • Kenneth Branagh • Eddie Redmayne

ON SALE: 12th March

In what is little more than a highly fanciful anecdote, My Week With Marilyn tells the unlikely tale of what happened to a lowly production assistant when Marilyn Monroe came to England in 1956 to film The Prince And The Showgirl. The resulting ‘true story’ sees 23-year-old Colin Clark (Redmayne) hook up with Monroe (Williams) during a lull in filming, forming a brief liaison with the fragile Hollywood icon. Kenneth Branagh turns in a delightfully hammy performance as acting legend Sir Laurence Olivier, but it is Michelle Williams as Marilyn who really sets the screen alight, turning an otherwise frothy romantic film into a mesmerising tribute to a tragic and vulnerable star. :::::
