BABYWEAR

Little Book Worms

Babies start to enjoy books from 9 months if mum and dad reads with them regularly and there is a great service on off er from the RCT Library Service called Bookstart which is all about sharing books with very small children. This initi ati ve will give them a headstart with early development of listening, speaking, reading and

even mathemati cal skills.

Here in Rhondda Cynon Taf the process starts in baby’s ninth month, when a free pair of books, one of them bilingual, and a nursery rhyme placemat is delivered at health checks along with a booklet to help mum and dad get the most out of reading with their children. Reading is all about development and toddlers att ending a health check aged between 18-30 months pick up an Early Years pack with two more books and a bedroom frieze to help them get started on numeracy. Also if you sign your baby up with RCT libraries before their second birthday you’ll get a free book and a head’s up on all the great kids’ acti viti es at your local library including storytelling and craft sessions.
