Reach for your crayon! W

e have all been aff ected at some point by ridiculous

proposals that are approved by those we elected to make our country a better place. However, not all that surprises or causes concern comes from our government representatives. T ere are times when others with a potentially great impact upon our lives cause deep concern – on occasions amounting to disbelief. One such occasion recently arose in Ontario, Canada. Mr Jesse Sansone arrived at

school to collect his four-year-old daughter and was asked to go to

the principal’s offi ce – nothing unusual there. However, what happened

thereafter was far from ordinary. With no prior warning from the school, he was confronted by three police offi cers. Mr Sansone was arrested

and taken to the police station where he was strip-searched. While he was detained, more police offi cers went to his home where his wife was looking after their 15-month-old. She, too, was required to go to the police station. T e police then searched the house, reportedly without a warrant.

10,234 COPIES E S EVERY M So, Mr Sansone, you might

begin to think, must have been on the radar for some reason. No – the reason for this extremely worrying and deeply distressing series of events had something rather less sinister at its core. T e cause of the arrest, strip-

search, bringing his wife and young child to a police station followed by the searching of the man’s home was just this: his daughter drew a picture of a gun in class. T en, when asked by the

kindergarten teacher the signifi cance of the drawing, the child allegedly replied: “Daddy

shoots monsters and bad guys with one”, or words to that eff ect. So what does a supposedly

educated teacher do when confronted with such worrying crayon drawings and words in class? Refl ect on the fact that many children have vivid imaginations and often play act parts that cannot happen in reality? No – this teacher brings it to

the attention of the Family & Children’s Services… and it, in turn, calls the police.
