Rio and have been expanding their presence in the area steadily over the past couple of years. A trend that looks set to continue in the years ahead.


Westug now employee over 40 marine engineers and the members of AIMPE now feel that the time is right for their employer Westug to sit down with their union and negotiate a collective agreement. The aim of which will be to provide certainty for all concerned in the years ahead.


AIMPE will keep you informed of developments in the months ahead.


February stop work meeting Members turned out in unprecedented numbers across the nation at the February monthly meetings to ventilate their frustration and wrath at AMSA’s intractability over Marine Order 3. At the WA branch meeting it was standing room only as members spilled over into the kitchen and hallway. The normal business of the day was suspended to allow a frank and open debate on all the issues and members were not restrained in articulating their opposition to AMSA’s proposal. It was clear from the mood of the meeting, and members endorsed that if the politicking failed to get results stronger measures will be required and will be supported.


Westug Over the past couple of weeks, AIMPE and its members at Westug have been exploring the idea of a striking a collective agreement covering their employment conditions with Westug.

Last year Mermaid was awarded 2 Woodside contracts to supply 2 offshore support vessels for FPSO support off the North West of WA. Both contracts are for a firm three years with two options of one year each. The Mermaid Sound commenced operations under this contract in July last year. Later this month Mermaid will import its
