The last days of Aussie flag steamers Boyne and Embley to go within months

he future of the Australian Flag on the Queensland coast is all but gone.


The two r ema ining trading bulk carriers that fly the Australian flag are to go. After 30 years of service on the Queensland coast, the 76358 DWT coal fired steam dry


bulk carriers, the River Boyne and River Embley are, according to all reports, to be decommissioned and sent for scrap.


The Australian Flag on the Weipa to Gladstone bauxite trade has gradually been taken over by UK flagged vessels owned by Rio Tinto (RTM). By September 2012 the sister ships wil l have depar ted the Queensland and Austra- lian Coasts.

Only 2 of the 5 RTM ships are Austra- lian crewed – the RTM WAKMATHA and RTM WEIPA.
