WHY WE DO IT Victoria’s story

I would like to thank the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance crew for the help and support I was given when they came to rescue me following a fall from my horse on Christmas Eve. We were on Pentridge

Down in Cranborne, Dorset, when my horse slipped on the mud and fell. The horse got up uninjured. However, I was not so lucky. Thanks to the quick

response of the people I was

with and the effi ciency of the air ambulance I was airlifted to Salisbury District Hospital. I suffered a broken ankle and collar bone, which have since both been plated, and I am now well on the way to recovery. I think my horse and I owe it

to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance to embark on some fundraising when I am back in the saddle.

Victoria de Candole

explained that, although there’s a 30 per cent chance of Sebastian suffering another seizure, doctors hope it can be avoided by managing his temperature with medicine if he becomes poorly. “It is every parent’s worst nightmare. I thought I’d lost

him,” Lissy says. “He is still very tired but he’s more or less back to himself. There are so many people I’d like to thank but everything happened so quickly that I don’t know who most of them are. “The staff and members of the public at Riversmeet

were wonderful and my friend Joanna was a great help. I’d also like to thank the various people who treated Sebastian, and the speed with which the air ambulance got him to Bristol was just amazing. We are very grateful.” Tracy Bartram, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance Communications Manager, says, “We are so pleased that Sebastian is now feeling much better and we are delighted that Lissy has come forward to praise the work of the air ambulance. “Due to data protection, we are unable to make fi rst- hand contact with those that use our life-saving service. It’s not until they contact us, that we can ask if we can use their story to further promote the work we do. “Thanks to Lissy, who contacted us via our Facebook

page, we can now tell Sebastian’s story and hope that those who read it will consider supporting the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance in future.”

Parts of this story were written by Matthew Manning from the Blackmore Vale Magazine. The picture of Sebastian was kindly provided by his mum, Lissy.
